Celebrities join Obama in campaign to end gun violence (video)

A slew of celebrities have rallied behind a single cause ‘we can end gun violence.’ Amy Schumer, Jennifer Aniston, Sophia Vergara, Kevin Bacon and Spike Lee are among the famous faces that joined President Obama in Every town for Gun Safety’s new PSA, “We Can End Gun Violence.” The clip also features survivors of gun violence, victims’ families and some other pro gun control Americans. Each repeats the campaign’s mantra “We can end gun violence.” Midway through, President Obama said his own message, “When we come together, Americans can do anything.”

Viewers are encouraged to join the movement and anyone can record themselves telling either “we can” or “end gun violence” and the nonprofit group will edit the clips into the montage. Some of the stars featured in the clip have long called for stringent gun control laws. Schumer began her anti gun violence crusade in July after a shooter opened fire at a Louisiana screening on her film “Trainwreck.” Since then, the comedian teamed up with her cousin Sen Chuck Schumer to call for stricter gun laws and lampooned gun nuts during her “Saturday Night Live”. Last week, she urged her fans to lobby on the issue in the wake of the San Bernardino slaughter.  Spike Lee called new film “Chi-Raq,” which focuses on Chicago gang violence, a cry for better gun control. Every town for Gun Safety released a similar video in 2012 following the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. That PSA featured A-listers such as Beyoncé, Jon Hamm, Amy Poehler, Steve Carell, Gwyneth Paltrow, etc. Some celebrities made appearances in both the 2012 and 2015 spots, including Jennifer Anniston, Julianne Moore, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, etc. The new video comes just days before the third anniversary of the Sandy Hook massacre, which killed 20 children and six adults too.
