Porsche will join the likes of Aston Martin and Volkswagen in the pursuit of Tesla’s electric car gold standard. Over the weekend, Porsche announced that it would make a production version of the Mission E all electric concept that it rolled out during the Frankfurt Motor Show next September. An exact release date wasn’t set, but Porsche vowed to have the line in showrooms by the end of this decade. While the Mission E remains a work in progress, during the concept’s release Porsche told it would make 600 horsepower, go zero to 60 in 3.5 seconds and come with a range of more than 300 miles. The centerpiece for the Mission E is an 800 volt battery, which is about twice the size of today’s average EV battery. On top of that, Porsche tells the battery can get an 80 percent charge in just 15 minutes. Designed to look like a slimmer, sleeker, futuristic 911, the Mission E doubles as a fine piece of eye candy as well as a technological go on. Porsche announced that it will pour 700 million into the production of the Mission E, an endeavor that is projected to bring 1,000 new jobs to Germany.
