The 7 best cars and SUVs this winter for under $35,000

1

If you live anywhere that has to deal with snowfall and with the places that don’t are becoming increasingly slim each year, chances are you have thought long and hard about how a car will fare in inclement weather before you buy it. With that in mind and armed with the fact that the average new car transaction price in the United Stats is just over $35,000, we have compiled a list of our 7 favorite cars and SUVs to keep you safe, warm and in control this winter.

-2016 Subaru Impreza

2

It is no surprise that we kick off this winter car list with a new Subaru. In the last few years alone, the independent Japanese brand has been selling cars like hotcakes, thanks to their reputation for reliability and standard all wheel drive across the range. The 2016 Impreza, especially in handy 5 door format, is by far the best in its class at handling the fluffy stuff and it won’t hurt your wallet either with a base MSRP of only $21,595.

-2016 Mazda CX-3

3

Mazda came storming into the subcompact crossover segment with the bar raising CX-3 and with affordable all wheel drive, it is a no brainer for a small winter sleigh. Boasting excellent fuel economy numbers, car like driving manners and a taller ride height, the CX-3 is a slightly more capable version of the already excellent Mazda3 hatch and one that will get you through the winter with ease at a base MSRP of only $21,210 for the Sport AWD model.

-2016 Ford Fusion

4

The Ford Fusion that you know and love is available with all wheel drive for when the going gets snowy. Powered by a 2.0 liter EcoBoost or 2.5 liter 4 cylinder, the Fusion boasts power and efficiency too. Luckily, AWD is an option box that can be ticked, but it is only available on the top of the range Titanium. Only for $33,120 however, it is still below the average transaction price.

-2016 Honda CR-V

5

For 2016, Honda keeps its best selling crossover true to its core meaning affordable, fuel efficient and comfortable too. Fuel economy can easily reach into the 30s and thanks to a spacious interior, the CR-V seems much more larger than it actually is. Only for $24,895 for the LX AWD model, the CR-V makes a very strong case to be your ride of choice this winter.

-2016 Chrysler 300

6

Sometimes the old ways are best and sometimes it’s best to roll. Chrysler’s large sedan is refreshingly old fashioned, with its smooth Pentastar V 6 and optional Hemi V 8 doing the heavy lifting, but this full size sedan isn’t one to fall behind trends. Keeping with the times, the 2016 300 is available with all wheel drive, for the discerning, snow bound customer that doesn’t want to sacrifice a comfortable. Pick one up in Limited trim for only $34,515.

-2016 Kia Sorento

7

The 2016 Sorento could fool the best of us into thinking it’s worth thousands more, thanks to the now commonplace Korean method of offering more for much less. Kia’s flagship SUV was fully redesigned for 2016 and with the overhaul comes power, capability and loads of standard features too. With AWD available across the range, the Sorento is a steal for its size at a relatively miniscule $28,000 starting MSRP for the well equipped LX model.

-2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

8

Would any list of capable winter rides be complete without the mac daddy? We think never and that’s why we round out this round up with the 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. While we are all for two door, topless Wrangler fun, the fact remains that the four door Unlimited model is wholly more practical and for a base price of only $27,295, you can not go wrong. It may not be the one you will want to drive every single day, but nothing beats a Wrangler for sheer capability and fun too.
