Abu Azrael, which roughly translates to “The Angel of Death” is purportedly the leader of a Shi’ite militia, the Imam Ali Brigade, a group fighting ISIS in Iraq.
According to Vocativ he is now become a cult figure on Iraqi social media, with some Facebook pages dedicated to him, posting photos of Azrael holding axes, and even abusing the corpses of Islamic State fighters.
